Multiple Injured After Semi Catapults Off Bridge

A semi-truck was left dangling from a bridge after a collision with another vehicle on a Thruway in Pittsford, a hamlet just under ten miles southeast of Rochester.

The trailer portion of the truck still dangled precariously from the overpass as of Thursday morning. The truck’s cab was resting over the damaged guardrail, the trailer hanging off the side.

Photos taken by the Henrietta Fire District show a FedEx vehicle twisted up on the I-90 overpass, with the New York State Thruway below it.

The FedEx semitrailer reportedly nearly rolled off the bridge in Pittsford, New York, on Thursday morning, injuring five people—including an infant—according to officials.

Fire Chief Mark Cholach of the Henrietta Fire Department informed the reporters that the event occurred on an Interstate 90 bridge before 8:30 a.m., close to exits 45 and 46, over Pittsford Mendon Center Road. The New York State Police reported that a semitrailer sideswiped a car.

Authorities arrived at the accident scene and spotted the FedEx driver outside the truck. They discovered him awake and aware.

Reports indicated that the second vehicle involved in the accident had three injured adults and an infant who were cared for by the CHS Mobile Integrated Healthcare ambulance service.

Cholach informed me that the FedEx truck was empty. He said there may have been more serious casualties if the vehicle had been packed.

When asked about the severity of the incident, Cholach was surprised to hear that the FedEx driver only had superficial injuries.

Even though his truck was severely damaged, the driver managed to crawl out of it.

Cholach said that after the accident, a hazmat crew was dispatched to clean up the fuel, oil, and mechanical fluid that had leaked from the vehicle.

Reports indicate that many law enforcement agencies from the area have been dispatched to the spot. The road will be blocked as long as the crew works on it.

Around 100 gallons of diesel fuel leaked.
