Donald Trump has always had a problem with some of his supporters. It doesn’t matter how much the former president defends Israel, it doesn’t matter that his family are Jewish, and it doesn’t matter that he did more for historically Black colleges than any president in modern history – the media always slams him for the actions of some of his most radical followers.
Among those radical followers is Nick Fuentes. He’s the podcast host with an army of young, white, male supporters who embrace his particular brand of white nationalism. In the same vein that President Joe Biden had the support of ardent communists who rejected his mostly-capitalist vision for America, former President Trump counted on the support of extremists like Fuentes. But not anymore.
In a Twitter/X post on August 9, 2024, podcaster Fuentes announced that he had declared “war” against the former president. Fuentes also threatened to send his army of supporters, whom he calls the “groypers,” after the former president and his team.
“Tonight I declared a new Groyper war against the Trump campaign,” Fuentes wrote. He added that, while he technically still supports Trump, he believes that his campaign had been captured by lobbyists, donors, and consultants that he railed against in 2016.
Fuentes’ relationship with Trump is a strange one – particularly given that Trump barely ever talks about him at all. Fuentes came close to establishing some kind of relationship with the former president when he tagged along to a dinner at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida at the invitation of controversial rapper Kanye West. When the 2022 dinner went public it erupted into an enormous scandal, but the former president insisted that he had no idea who he was – and that he wouldn’t have been invited had he known.
Fuentes’ “America First” campaign has been widely criticized by mainstream conservatives, though he has gained support from some Trump-aligned campaigners, including controversial activist Laura Loomer, and disgraced former conservative show host Candace Owens.
Either way, Trump is not fan of Fuentes – that’s on the record – and now Fuentes isn’t happy with the former president either. Let’s see how the media spins this one.
