Trump Accidentally Roasts Himself With Remarks on 80 Year Olds

Donald Trump was met with mockery after he suggested that an 80-year-old was incapable of signing an important document—apparently forgetting that he will turn 80 halfway through his second term in the White House if re-elected. Discussing Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis, the former President accused her of indicting people in their 80s and handing them a document, saying, “Uh, would you sign here?”

In a speech in Wisconsin, Trump also accused Hillary Clinton of refusing to concede defeat in 2016, prompting a backlash on social media. “Hillary acknowledged she lost and even went to the inauguration, unlike Trump, the whiney baby loser,” one person wrote.

The former President is under increasing scrutiny for what Democrats have described as incoherency in his speeches. For instance, during an address to the Economic Club of New York, an attendee asked what specific legislation he would introduce to deal with high childcare costs. In a lengthy response, he appeared to suggest that tariffs would pay for childcare. Still, the answer was widely criticized, with some commentators stating he does not relate to problems faced by everyday Americans. The former President even disagreed that childcare was expensive.

The White House quickly highlighted Trump’s response on social media. Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates tweeted, “If you have any idea what the hell that answer means, you’re a better detective than I am.” Bates added that Trump is wrong about the meaning and application of tariffs, stating that they are a tax on American consumers that will drive the cost of living up even further.

The Harris campaign took a similar view and tweeted a clip of Trump’s handling of a topic that Vice President Harris has pledged to address by expanding child tax credits. Trump’s remarks came days after his running mate, JD Vance, remarked that the solution to high childcare costs was to ask grandparents, aunts, and uncles to help out. “If that happens, you relieve some of the pressure on all the resources that we’re spending on daycare,” Vance said.
