Former Channel Seven star Andrew O’Keefe was rushed to hospital after a suspected drug overdose at a party in Sydney’s eastern suburbs over the weekend. The 52-year-old, known for hosting Deal or No Deal, was revived by paramedics at a home in Vaucluse around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday before being transported to St Vincent’s Hospital for further treatment, according to reports by the Daily Telegraph.
O’Keefe has since been released from the hospital. In a statement, New South Wales Police said officers responded to the incident after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man at a residence on Old South Head Road. Paramedics provided medical assistance, and the man was later reported to be in stable condition. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
O’Keefe’s appearance at the party came shortly after a Sydney court upheld his convictions for domestic violence assault earlier in the week. The convictions relate to an incident in 2021 in which O’Keefe was found to have assaulted a woman, pushing her into a doorway and physically attacking her. He was sentenced to 18 months under a community corrections order, which includes supervision and reporting requirements, and was also fined $800 for drug-related offences.
During the court case, O’Keefe’s lawyer, Phillip Boulten SC, argued that the woman’s testimony regarding the injuries was unreliable, but District Court Judge John Pickering dismissed this argument, upholding the majority of the charges. However, the judge overturned other drug possession charges, finding that it could not be proven that certain items found in O’Keefe’s apartment belonged to him.
The Weekend Sunrise and The Chase host had previously admitted to the altercation with the woman but maintained that any physical contact was accidental due to proximity rather than deliberate force.
