Terrell Suggs, a two-time Super Bowl winner, was taken into custody in Arizona on Tuesday after allegations that he brandished a firearm during an altercation at a drive-thru last month.
Online records from the Maricopa County jail reveal that 41-year-old Suggs was arrested and booked on two charges, one of assault and the other of crimes against public order, after an incident that occurred on March 10 at a Starbucks in Scottsdale, according to the documents.
The Associated Press reports that the retired NFL player was waiting in line to get coffee when he accidentally drove by the ordering speaker and had to turn around.
Suggs accidentally ran over the ordering speaker while reversing his Range Rover. He also collided with another man’s car.
Suggs and the other motorists got out of their cars, fought, and then returned to get their orders, even though neither vehicle was damaged.
The second driver then reportedly saw Suggs make a threatening motion and allegedly pointed a weapon out the window, showing that he had a gun, and then he departed.
Suggs issued a statement through his management team claiming the other guy had “escalated the situation.”
The documents state that the individual cursed at Suggs before the former NFL great challenged him to a fight. The ex-pass rusher for the Baltimore Ravens reportedly proceeded to insult the guy by calling him a “p***y a** cracker” and threatened to “kill your b*tch a**.”
The guy contacted the authorities, and the police said a dashcam had recorded the incident.
A misdemeanor allegation of threatening or intimidating and a felony charge of disorderly conduct with firearms led to Suggs’ eventual arrest. He was freed after a brief appearance before a judge on Tuesday evening.
While the 41-year-old Suggs has been mum on the subject, those close to him said he felt intimidated during the confrontation with the individual.
Suggs attended Arizona State University and played in the NFL from 2003 to 2019.
Suggs, who was taken tenth overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2003 NFL draft out of Arizona State, played with the team from 2003 to 2018. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003, and Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.
He won his second Super Bowl while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.
