(FiveNation.com)- The so-called Squad is replete with “Do as I say, not as I do” hypocrisy. They were among the loudest voices demanding that the Biden administration defy the courts and extend the eviction moratorium to allow non-paying renters to squat in rental units while leaving property owners stuck with the bill.
Well, it turns out one of the “cancel rent” harridans in the Squad, Ayanna Pressley, along with her husband, raked in as much as fifteen thousand dollars in rental income last year.
According to Pressley’s 2020 financial disclosure report, she made somewhere between $5,000 and $15,000 in rental income from a property in Boston she owns in her husband’s name. Oddly enough, despite the COVID panic which Pressley claims prevents renters from paying their landlords, Pressley reported the same earnings on her pre-pandemic 2019 financial disclosure report.
In April of last year, Pressley, along with Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez co-sponsored a bill introduced by fellow Squad member Ilhan Omar that would have instituted a nationwide cancellation of rent and mortgage payments for the duration of the pandemic. They reintroduced the bill in March of this year.
Pressley believes that “keeping families housed” is a public health matter. In fact, it is a public health emergency!!!!
Well, if it was that dire, why didn’t Ayanna voluntarily “cancel rent” for her tenants? She could have. She didn’t need to wait to see if Congress would pass her bill. She could’ve taken the reins and let her tenants live rent-free for the duration of the pandemic. But she didn’t.
And here’s the crazy part.
Ayanna Pressley isn’t the only Squad member who made money on rental properties during the pandemic.
It was reported on Tuesday that Rashida Tlaib’s financial disclosure report for 2020 includes between $15,001 and $50,000 in rental income for a property in Detroit. And, like Pressley, Tlaib reported the same earnings pre-pandemic in 2019. And, like Pressley, Rashida advocated for sparing tenants the burden of paying rent while happily collecting rent from her tenants.
To their slack-jawed fans, these two are warriors for “cancel rent” are standing up for the Slacker Class. But in reality, like most Democrats, they are unwilling to put their own money where their big mouths are.
