Two males in San Antonio began shooting at each other just after midnight on Sunday, killing two and wounding four.
Authorities rushed to the scene of gunfire at Fiesta San Antonio’s Market Square, where two armed males, one 18 and the other 20 years old, were quickly spotted.
The 18-year-old shot allegedly shot the 20-year-old as the other group of guys started to run away. Police then fatally shot the 18-year-old.
Four bystanders were wounded in the second Fiesta shooting in two years. It now seems normalized for some Fiesta San Antonio events to have violent incidents, given the recent spate of videos showing fist fights going viral.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that 18-year-old Mikey Valdez was the young man who opened fire in Market Square on Sunday morning. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus claimed that police tracked him through the crowd and fatally shot him after he opened fire. During the altercation, 20-year-old Alberto Cisneros Jr. was wounded and later died at a nearby hospital after being struck by fire from Valdez’s revolver, according to initial reports from the SAPD. The four wounded onlookers received non-life-threatening injuries.
According to witness Xavier Zapata, the emergency vehicles that showed up made it clear that it was a major problem.
According to Zapata, who was in the vicinity of the shooting but couldn’t see it, the music was so loud that he couldn’t even make out the sound of the bullets. He suggested that, depending on your position, you may not have been able to tell that a shooting had occurred.
Several longstanding Fiesta exhibitors, including those who claim to have more than 30 years of experience, said that the ongoing violence, such as the gunshot on Sunday morning, might make them reconsider opening their booths next year. Zapata has said that he will continue with his decades-long custom of attending Fiesta San Antonio, regardless of how terrifying the situation may be.
