(FiveNation.com)- During the Trooping the Colour procession, Queen Elizabeth will not take the royal salute for the first time in her 70-year reign.
Every year, the procession is organized to commemorate the sovereign’s birthday. It’s part of the 96-year-Platinum old’s Jubilee festivities, which honor her seven decades as monarch. On June 2nd, the activities will take place.
On Horse Guards Parade, the British queen has traditionally saluted her troops, known as the Household Division. This year, her son Prince Charles, the British heir to the throne, her daughter Princess Anne and grandson Prince William, will take the salute during the military performance.
The queen has “episodic mobility concerns” and has had difficulty getting about in recent months. Thus the ceremony is being changed.
Elizabeth has also delegated responsibilities to senior royal family members.
Buckingham Palace said earlier this month that the queen’s presence at festivities over the Platinum Jubilee weekend will most likely be confirmed on “the day itself.”
Following the Trooping the Colour Parade, the queen will meet the people on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Three of her four children, Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Anne and retired Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, and Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, will accompany her.
William and Kate Middleton, together with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will be on the balcony. After his father, Charles, 73, William, 39, is second in line to the throne.
According to the palace, only working senior members of the royal family will be present on the balcony, which means Prince Andrew and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be there.
Throughout the Platinum Jubilee season, the queen has made several unexpected appearances. She made her first public appearance in weeks at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she was able to watch her favorite equines compete. She was also a special guest at an equestrian exhibition in Windsor, where Tom Cruise and Helen Mirren were attendees.
Elizabeth made an appearance at a London train station shortly after to inspect a freshly constructed subway line named after her.
The visit was described as “a wonderful development” by Buckingham Palace, which said that “the organizers were aware of the likelihood she may attend.”
