(FiveNation.com)- According to a press release from Friday, the 24 sex offenders were swept up in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Riverside Counties in a 5-day operation that concluded on June 17.
All 24 suspects are non-citizens who have criminal histories and convictions for sexual abuse and some are registered sex offenders. Many of them were convicted on charges of sexual assault involving minors.
The suspects are “currently being detained pending the completion of removal proceedings, criminal prosecution, or removal from the United States,” the press release said.
Those arrested include a 24-year-old Guatemalan convicted in 2020 of felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.
Another suspect, a 23-year-old Mexican national, was convicted in 2011 for felony sodomy by use of force/injury.
Another Mexican national apprehended was convicted in 2017 for felony kidnapping, felony anal and genital penetration, and felony assault with a deadly weapon.
Yet another child predator, a 44-year-old Salvadoran national was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts on a child.
A 45-year-old Mexican national was previously arrested in 2019 for felony assault with intent to rape, felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child, along with a misdemeanor for willful cruelty to a child.
Those arrested who are not being federally criminally prosecuted will remain in ICE custody until they can be processed for removal. The ones with outstanding orders of removal will be deported immediately. The remaining individuals will be detained in ICE custody to await a hearing before an immigration judge.
