(FiveNation.com)- According to the latest anti-Trump book to come over the transom, former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan reportedly “found himself in tears” as he watched the news footage of rioters mobbing the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
This nugget of useless information comes from journalist Mark Leibovich’s book, “Thank You For Your Servitude” which chronicles how members of the Republican Party went from being anti-Trump to slobbering, obedient Trump supporters, even after the former president “incited” an “insurrection” to “overthrow our democracy.”
In excerpts obtained by CNN before the book’s Tuesday release, former speaker Ryan told Leibovich that he doesn’t usually cry that much, but “something snapped in him” when he watched the riot on television. “It really disturbed me, foundationally,” the former Republican VP candidate said.
In the excerpt, Leibovich said Ryan never believed Trump’s claims about election fraud would result in violence. He assumed Trump would “bitch and moan and maybe make a big show of ‘fighting’” long enough to make everyone “feel good and victimized.” But eventually, the book goes on, Ryan thought Trump would just leave and let everyone go on with their lives.
For Leibovich, Paul Ryan is one of the good Republicans who didn’t submit to Trump. He notes in his book that Ryan hasn’t spoken to the former president since he retired from Congress in 2018 and “he expected never to speak to him again.”
No doubt former President Trump will be brokenhearted by this news.
Ryan has been busy campaigning and raising money for Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney who is leading the charge to prevent Trump from running for president again.
He also endorsed impeachment-voting Republican South Carolina Congressman Tom Rice in last month’s primary, however, Rice lost to Trump-endorsed candidate SC state Rep. Russell Fry.
It is not known if Paul Ryan “found himself in tears” over Rice being defeated.
