(FiveNation.com)- If all you do is read Twitter and liberal media sources, you would think that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a popular superstar.
But the real story is that a majority of Americans do not like the congresswoman from New York.
According to a recent poll from the Heartland Institute/Rasmussen, almost 60% of respondents say they have a poor impression of AOC. What’s more, a whopping 75% of people say they don’t want anything to do with the socialist policies that she often preaches.
Respondents were given a choice between a free-market economy and socialism, and 75% chose capitalism. Only 11% of respondents chose socialism, while 14% said they were “not sure.”
In a statement, the nonprofit institute, which is based in Illinois, said:
“Likely voters hate socialism.
“Despite the countless calls for more socialism among elites in media and Hollywood, Americans aren’t interested in adopting the same socialist policies that have led to mass poverty wherever they have been tried.”
Like it or not, AOC has become the face of socialism not just in Congress but in the United States. Still, 58% of the people polled said they have either a “somewhat” or “very” unfavorable opinion of her. Only 37% of people said they had either a “somewhat” or “very” favorable view of the Democrat.
This wasn’t just a poll that was interested in the opinions of conservatives, either. Of the respondents, 47% said they had either a “very” or “somewhat” unfavorable opinion of Democrat Joe Biden, with 51% saying they had either a “very” or “somewhat” favorable view of him.
AOC likes to mangle words on her Twitter account and rabble rouse with her followers. She and her team of misfits from “The Squad” do so all the time. Just this week, she retweeted a message from Bloomberg reporter Erik Wasson that said:
“STIMULUS: increasing checks to $2,000 costs $464 billion says official scorekeeper of Congress.”
AOC then added the message:
“Alternatively, if conservatives are suddenly so concerned w/ the cost of the bill, maybe they should focus on stripping their cushy tax giveaways for 3 martini lunches and thoroughbred racehorses instead of blocking critical support for working people.”
She plays this game a lot — avoiding the actual facts and distracting people from them with wild accusations that have nothing to do with anything.
To wit, conservatives in Congress have been opposed to a massive total for the next economic stimulus bill from the beginning. It’s why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wouldn’t bring House Democrats’ HEROES Act because of the huge price tag. That pandemic stimulus proposal totaled more than $3 trillion.
So, for AOC to say that conservatives are “suddenly so concerned with the cost of the bill” is just downright not true. They’ve been concerned with the cost of the bill — and any economic stimulus proposals — for the last seven months.
The compromise between Republicans and Democrats that would help the American people and not add trillions to the country’s debt is the one that President Donald Trump signed over the weekend, which totals $900 billion.
