(FiveNation.com)- Environmentalists, public health advocates, and progressive advocacy groups warned Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday not to include the so-called “dirty deal” on energy project-permitting reforms in the massive military spending bill set to go through Congress this month.
A climate change blog reports that a letter signed by a coalition of more than 750 groups urges Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Pelosi (D-Calif.) to unequivocally reject any effort to promote fossil fuels, advance unproven technologies, and weaken our core environmental laws and stand with the communities that bear the brunt of fossil fuel harm.
In September, the permitting reform package was left out of a must-pass stopgap funding bill. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WVa.) has tried to force the proposal several times as part of his agreement to support the watered-down Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that passed Congress and was signed by President Biden. Manchin wants to use the NDAA to force it through despite critics, most from the Democrat Party and outside campaigners.
A far-left activist newspaper reported Sunday that Pelosi spoke with House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-Wa.) about attaching Manchin’s permitting bill to the NDAA.
The NDAA text with controversial permitting reforms could be released, though sources indicated the situation remains fluid and legislative plans were subject to change.
Reports show climate campaigners worldwide decried the failure of the U.N.-backed COP27 climate conference in Egypt last month. There were no new and binding emissions reduction targets, especially for wealthy and high-polluting nations like the U.S., where the fossil fuel industry controls lawmakers and government policy.
“7 Directions of Service” co-founder Dr. Crystal Cavalier-Keck claimed that once again, the health and dignity of tribal communities across the country are threatened by the fossil fuel industry and elected officials on their payroll.
Why don’t climate activists ever worry about the tribal women and children who are human-trafficked?
What about the illegal aliens crossing the border, leaving crime and waste in their wake? Isn’t that pollution terrible for those people and the climate?
“Fossil” fuel is not ever going away, and most people understand that. In the meantime, the melodramatic climate grifters make lots of money trying to convince taxpayers that it will.
