Meghan Markle notably did not mention her sister-in-law, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, when listing powerful women in a recent speech. Speaking in Colombia, the Duchess of Sussex named her mother and her daughter Lilibet among the females that inspire her most, adding that life is “full of surprises.”
Markle also recounted a well-known story from when she was eleven years old and wrote to manufacturers Procter and Gamble to complain about a sexist advertisement. The washing-up liquid ad stated that “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans,” which infuriated a young Meghan Markle. After several letters to the multinational, the Duchess claims the ad was changed to “people all over America.” Markle frequently tells the story as an example of how one person’s voice can make a significant difference – including that of a child. “It was just an 11-year-old with pen and paper,” she said.
Nevertheless, Meghan and Prince Harry teamed up with Procter and Gamble years later to “focus on gender equality, more inclusive online spaces, and resilience and impact through sport.” The company had already created links with various women’s organizations to ensure that the “voices of girls” were heard at the “tables where decisions are made.”
Meanwhile, some recent media reports indicate that Kate Middleton is “anxious” about Meghan Markle and what moves she and Prince Harry will make next. The two Royal wives have a strained relationship thanks to Markle’s accusations that the ancient British institution is racist, and Prince Harry’s tell-all autobiography that laid bare what life is like inside the UK’s Royal family.
Future King Prince William is reportedly tired of the anxiety his wife experiences whenever Harry and Meghan are in the media, and the couple have come to an agreement not to talk about them.
It wasn’t always that way, however. When Markle first married into the Royal family, the two couples were known as “the Fab Four” and led several campaigns together. The relationship suffered its first irreparable blow when Harry and Meghan withdrew from the family in 2021 and relocated to California.
