The Incident and Immediate Response

On the afternoon of June 21, 2025, a spectacular collision unfolded as the mega-yacht “Timeless,” with around 400 passengers on board, struck a dock on the Hudson River near 125th Street, New York City. According to reports from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), they were on the scene by 4:15 p.m., just moments after the incident, to provide immediate assistance to the injured and ensure those impacted were quickly transported to local hospitals. Fortunately, there were no fatal injuries reported.

Among the casualties, nine people required hospitalization due to the event, while a total of 35 individuals sustained minor injuries. The FDNY ensured a swift medical response, facilitating the transport of those affected to nearby medical facilities for a thorough evaluation. Meanwhile, a water rescue operation was confirmed by the police, with the yacht being safely towed away for further investigation. The current status of the vessel remains unknown.

Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

Despite the dramatic scene and fears of more severe outcomes, the passengers and crew members stayed safe. All 352 individuals aboard disembarked from the vessel without grave injuries, with wheelchairs provided for those needing assistance. In light of these outcomes, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has yet to comment on this alarming maritime accident. Empire Cruises, the company operating Timeless, has also remained silent regarding any potential misconduct or mechanical failure contributing to the collision. The striking incident has prompted a call for clearer answers on operational safety, pending an investigation led by the Coast Guard.

Broader Implications

The accident follows a painful reminder of the previous collision involving a Mexican Navy vessel crashing into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Such events bolster the argument for intensifying safety protocols and routine inspections within maritime travel. With the Hudson River continuing to be a prominent feature of city life, the regional administration and coastguard, along with businesses operating these cruises, are now pressured to safeguard against future maritime malfunctions.

“The DJ is over there already,” King, a party promoter, told The Post. “We were blessed because people were standing along the side of the boat so when it hit, they could have gone over, but they didn’t.”

As the relevant authorities pursue answers, the citizens of New York City and beyond are urged to remain vigilant and hopeful that preventative measures will ensure the safety of passengers and crew alike. Further updates are expected as the comprehensive investigation progresses.
