Allegations and Evidence

Catherine Guziejka, 44, was arrested over allegations of severe child abuse at Punkin’ Doodles Day Care. Security footage reveals Guziejka viciously kicking toddlers over 100 times.

Guziejka is charged with assaulting six children over several months. The abuse reportedly includes kicking a 2-year-old in the back and dragging toddlers by their arms. Video evidence formed the crux of these charges after being shown to parents by a concerned daycare employee.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office rapidly responded to the accusations, evaluating the extensive video evidence to build the case. Guziejka is currently held in the Smith County Jail under six indictments of child injury with intent to cause bodily harm, with significant footage yet to be analyzed as the investigation remains active. These documented abuses occurred between July and October, making this a pressing concern for community safety.

Community and Daycare Response

The community reacted swiftly, with parents demanding immediate action. Punkin’ Doodles Day Care underwent ownership changes to restore credibility and trust, with plans for rebranding underway. Sheriff Larry Smith emphasized parental vigilance, advocating regular discussions with children to uncover any potential hidden instances of harassment or distress.

“Talk to them often about how their day was, what they did, and things of that nature,” Smith said. “Maybe [there is] an opportunity for something to come out where they may be afraid to say it otherwise,” Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said.

Within the tight-knit community, concern grows as the investigation delves deeper. The daycare seeks to reassure parents amid heightened concern after such serious allegations and turn a new page under different leadership. Their efforts aim to reconstruct the safety net previously shattered by disturbing revelations.

“We’ve got six charges we think that are provable in a court of law,” Smith added. “Now we’re going forward; detectives are combing through hours of video to see if there’s any other forms of abuse that have not been reported.”
