Kim Jong Un Officials Call Abrupt Meeting As Historic Deadline Approaches

(FiveNation.com)- On Monday, the communist North Korean government hosted a major political conference, during which North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un oversaw a meeting of the ruling Worker’s Party Central Committee.

Kim’s presence at the meeting – and the fact that it was being held in the first place – is significant. The country is dealing with one of the worst food shortages in its history and is also recovering from a series of major floods that destroyed farms in the southern region of the country.

Reports from the nation’s KCNA news agency said that the meeting was used to review major policies for the next year, and officials decided on “strategic and tactical policies” as well as “practical tasks for dynamically guiding” the “struggle” of the worker’s party. Reports also said that the party was aiming to “usher in a new period of the development of socialist construction to the next stage of victory.”

They really have a way with words, don’t they…

The plenary meeting is among the highest-level meetings for the North Korean government, and such meetings have been used by Kim Jong Un previously to announce major new policies and approaches to relationships with the United States and neighboring South Korea.

Legislators also acknowledged the 10th year of Kim’s rule, after assuming power following the death of his father Kim Jong Il in 2011.

After four days of the meeting, Kim Jong Un gave an unexpected speech, but little in the way of details were made available in the press.
