(FiveNation.com)- Air Force Two brought Kamala Harris to Las Vegas on Wednesday. She spoke about the inflation spending bill for 20 minutes at the MGM Grand during the United Steelworkers Convention. Later, she met with Nevada’s most prominent union, the Culinary Worker’s Union called UNITE HERE!, and sampled union-made dessert pastries in the Right-to-Work state.
Harris has used abortion as a wedge issue since Roe was reversed. According to the White House, Harris has spoken with legislators from 17 states on the pro-choice issue and attended a round-table discussion on Monday with “leaders” from institutions across the country.
Harris decided she should continue her abortion tour in Nevada, which is stupid. Since voters added abortion to Nevada’s constitution in 1990, the matter has been resolved. In 2019, the Trust Nevada Women Act removed “antiquated” terminology from the state’s statutes.
A requirement for age verification was negated. Age verification protects just children. Las Vegas is a sex-trafficking hotbed. Thus young victims seeking abortions may be forced to lie about their age to protect their abusers or never asked.
Harris was joined by Attorney General Aaron Ford, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, and Congressman Steven Horsford. Governor Steve Sisolak, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Congresswomen Dina Titus, and Suzie Lee were absent.
Non-partisan and third-party voters decide elections in purple Nevada. Non-major party voter registrations overtook Democrats and Republicans last year. While several prominent Democrats were absent from the VP visit due to schedule conflicts, it may signal that embattled incumbents don’t think Nevadans will vote for a dead issue in November.
In Nevada, Democrats have trouble with both working-class and Hispanic voters.
According to new polls, Hispanic voters prioritize the economy over abortion.
The election between Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and GOP opponent Adam Laxalt could hinge on the Hispanic vote. Maybe Nevada’s top Democrats stayed away because Hispanics aren’t interested in post-Roe abortion antics.
