(FiveNation.com)- A New Mexico judge ruled that a county commissioner be barred from ever holding a public office position because he “engaged in” insurrection on January 6, according to Daily Caller.
Otero County Commissioner and Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin was caught on video illegally breaching Capitol grounds and saying that he would wait for a mob to get “this door broke down” before entering an enclosed staircase, according to U.S. District Judge Francis Mathew. The judge also claimed that the pro-Trump group founded by Griffin was involved in the “Stop the Steal” movement prior to the event.
Mathew found Griffin guilty of engaging in insurrection under the Fourteenth Amendment which disqualifies him from holding public office under the United States or any state. As a result, Mathew ordered that Grffin be immediately deposed. Being disbarred has reportedly not occurred for this reason in over 100 years.
Prior to this ruling, Griffin was previously convicted of trespassing restricted area in the Capitol but was acquitted of disorderly conduct. The acquittal, however, did not prevent him from getting hooked on “insurrection” charges.
The judge reportedly said that Griffin was recorded saying that Mike Pence was “gonna have to find a real deep hole to crawl into” and that he also filmed a speech he gave on January 6, saying “It’s a great day for America! The people [are] showing that they’ve had enough. People are ready for fair and legal elections, or this is what you’re going to get, and you’re going to get more of it.”
Democrats have tried to tie the former president to the riot that occurred at the Capitol on January 6 through their select committee, but they have struggled with credibility issues when bringing on a former White House staffer who claimed that Trump assaulted a secret service agent and lunged at the steering wheel of the vehicle to get him to turn back to the Capitol.
The testimony sounded like it could have come from a Michael Bay movie.
