John McAfee Suicide Note Found

(FiveNation.com)- Despite a source claiming Spanish authorities found what they say is a suicide note in software developer John McAfee’s pocket at the time of his death, his wife Janice maintains that McAfee did not kill himself.

McAfee was found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona Spain on June 23 just hours after a Spanish court reached an agreement to extradite him to the US to face charges of tax evasion.

Back in 2019, McAfee sent a tweet claiming he had received “subtle messages” from the US government that he believed meant they were coming for him. In his tweet, McAfee added, “If I suicide myself, I didn’t. I was whackd.”

McAfee was arrested at the Barcelona airport in October 2020 on a warrant issued by Tennessee prosecutors alleging he evaded paying more than $4 million in taxes. The day before he was found dead, Spain’s National Court announced that it was agreeing to his extradition to the US, however the decision was not yet final.

But McAfee’s wife Janice doesn’t believe her husband died at his own hands. When she arrived at the penitentiary near Barcelona to recover her husband’s belongings, Janice told reporters that she had just spoken with her husband earlier on the day he died.

“His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening,’” she told reporters, adding that those were not the words of someone who was suicidal.

McAfee blamed “US authorities” for her husband’s death, claiming the charges against him were politically motivated.

The US State Department in a statement said it was monitoring the investigation of McAfee’s death and would provide “all appropriate assistance to the family.”

At the time she spoke with reporters, Janice McAfee was not aware that a so-called suicide note was found on her husband’s body.

John McAfee’s life was not without controversy.

In 2012 he was sought for questioning, but never charged, in connection to the murder of his neighbor while he was living in Belize. Four years later McAfee made a failed attempt to win the Libertarian nomination for President, but lost to Gary Johnson.

McAfee and his wife fled to the northeastern Spanish coast when his indictment for tax evasion was handed down in 2020.
