(NewsGlobal.com)- Last month, the Biden administration stated that in order to qualify for federal money to pay for reduced or free school meals for students from low-income families, K-12 schools must let boys into girls’ bathrooms. The schools must also give training to their employees and staff on how to avoid “misgendering” others and how to use the pronouns of their choosing.
The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) claimed the decision was made based on an interpretation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as well as the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008.
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that The United States Department of Agriculture is committed to administering all of its programs equitably and fairly and helping those in need with the utmost respect. Vilsack claimed that getting rid of discrimination in any form, including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, is a critical step in promoting these ideals.
According to the USDA, the action is in line with President Biden’s Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination based on Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation.
To put it another way, unless schools let transgender-identifying children use the bathrooms of their choice, they will lose all federal funding. They will be unable to pay for cafeteria food.
Reports show this new regulation does not allow public schools to petition for an exception. Private groups can petition for a religious exemption, but they must show how the rule contradicts religious precepts. Conservative groups reacted angrily to the decision, accusing the Biden administration of weaponizing progressive politics at the expense of feeding children.
John Elcesser, executive director of the Indiana Non-Public Education Association, explained to a conservative news outlet that the rule appears to be playing politics with feeding underprivileged students. He alleged that if a school thinks they can’t participate because it goes against their purpose or beliefs, and if a religious exemption isn’t given, they’re removing a program that feeds low-income kids.
According to the new USDA regulation, organizations that take food stamps or other federal food aid must let men into women’s private facilities, such as showers and sleeping rooms, if they identify as female. These businesses must also enable male employees to dress as women while on the job.
