Well, get ready not to be surprised.
Reports just revealed how the two socialist members of congress, who are both members of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “squad,” took part in a number of events with Muslim advocacy groups that have called for the release of “Lady al-Qaeda” from a prison in Texas.
It’s disturbing for obvious reasons, but particularly worrying given that the Muslim gunman who held Jewish people hostage at a Texas synagogue last Tuesday was also calling for the release of the woman, whose real name is Aafia Siddiqui.
Siddiqui was convicted for attempting to kill two Americans in 2010. She had been detained by authorities in Afghanistan in 2008 after she was found to be in possession of handwritten notes that talked about causing a “mass casualty attack.” The notes also had a number of potential targets in the United States written down, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and the Empire State Building.
The FBI determined that the woman is a major risk to American national security, as well as to the lives of potentially millions of New Yorkers, and locked her up.
So, why would Tlaib and Omar attend events hosted by groups calling for her release?
In April 2021, Tlaib appeared alongside Dr. Osama Abuirshaid, who is the leader of the American Muslims for Palestine organization. The organization held an event in November that year calling for the release of “Lady al-Qaeda.”
And while the event happened after Tlaib appeared alongside Abuirshaid, she has not condemned his actions and has not responded to media requests for comment.
What’s more, Rep. Tlaib was awarded the “American Muslim Public Servant of 2021” award last year by the Council on American-Islamic Relations – an organization that also supports her release.
