(FiveNation.com)- CBS News made the incredible claim that all living former U.S. presidents, with the exception of former President Donald Trump, have condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The problem? That’s a lie. All living former U.S. presidents have issued statements condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including former President Donald Trump.
President Joe Biden responded by issuing a range of economic sanctions against five major Russian banks, called Putin’s invasion “premeditated.”
Former President George W. Bush issued his own statements, stating that the Russian attack on Ukraine is the “gravest security crisis o the European continent since World War II.” He added that he joins with the international community in “condemning Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.”
It’s kind of rich coming from the man who started both the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars…but okay.
Former President Barack Obama issued his own statement, saying that Russia chose to invade the country because “the people of Ukraine chose a path of sovereignty, self-determination, and democracy.”
Bill Clinton issued a statement and so did former President Jimmy President, who was in the White House during the Cold War.
CBS then wrongly implied that former President Donald Trump had not condemned the war, citing the fact that his statement did not come from his Save America PAC.
That doesn’t mean, however, that the former president did not condemn the invasion. In fact, Trump appeared on Fox News on the day that invasion began, slamming Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine and laying additional blame at the feet of President Joe Biden. He claimed that Putin saw Biden’s weakness during the election and then in Afghanistan, and suggested that it wouldn’t have happened if he was in charge.
How come the media gets to lie with impunity like this?
