Democrats Propose A 1000% Tax On Guns

(FiveNation.com)- A proposal to tax assault weapons by 1,000 percent has the support of some Democrats, including Virginia Congressman Don Breyer.

While introducing the Assault Weapons Excise Act to the US House of Representatives, Breyer cited the most recent mass shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde, and Tulsa. Breyer then expressed his opinions and the rationale for the ridiculous tax idea on Twitter.

Breyer said that the Uvalde shooter purchased an AR-15 model weapon for $1,870 shortly after turning 18. He murdered 19 children and two instructors a week later. Under his legislation, that rifle would cost $18,700, making it much more challenging to purchase,

The congressman said that congress must act to prevent the flood of weapons of war into American communities. Mass shootings in schools, supermarkets, hospitals, churches, synagogues, malls, theaters, bars, and other locations have frequently involved the use of assault weapons intended for use on the battlefield. Even law enforcement feels outmatched, as evidenced by the response in Uvalde.

It’s unclear if the police officers in Uvalde knew what gun the shooter was using or if they would have gone in had he had a 9mm. After all, a 9mm will “blow your lung out.”

Breyer’s idiocy continued-

“My plan would levy an excise tax of one thousand percent on the maker, importer, or producer of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. It is intended to avoid the filibuster and pass the Senate with 50 votes.”

The tax implies that poorer people are mass murderers.

Also, one wonders how Breyer would feel about a 1000% tax on late-term abortions.

Breyer cited Republican failures on gun safety. He says his bill offers a way around the Senate Republicans’ filibuster and would save lives.

Reconciliation might be used to enact the proposed legislation, which would only require 50 votes in the Senate.

High-capacity magazines—those able to hold ten rounds or more—and “assault weapons” in the military style would be subject to the fee.

“Any part, combination of components, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is designed or operated to accelerate the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm without converting the semiautomatic firearm into a machinegun” are also covered by the proposed tax hike.

Ammunition would be exempt from the rule, granting municipal, state, and federal governments, including law enforcement and police forces.

This Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that House Democrats would soon examine legislation outlawing military-style assault rifles, which would be the most assertive gun control measure ever proposed by Congress.

Breyer and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have not spoken about the legislation.
