Chris Wallace Marriage Questions Turns Interview Awkward

(FiveNation.com)- In a recent episode of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” host Chris Wallace sat down for a one-on-one with actress/left-wing activist Jane Fonda, and at one point, the interview took a bizarre turn when the actress asked Wallace if he was married.

The pair were discussing Fonda’s distaste for cocktail parties. The 85-year-old actress said she doesn’t like the small talk common at cocktail parties and usually ends up finding someone interesting with whom she can sit in a corner and talk “all night.”

Fonda told Wallace that she is “basically” shy which is why she finds small talk so distasteful. Then, quite unexpectedly, Fonda asked Chris Wallace if he was married, prompting Wallace to ask her if she was “interested.”

Fonda chuckled at Wallace’s response and added that she only asked in case she might want to have him join her when she is invited to cocktail parties so she would have someone to talk to in the corner of the room.

Fonda, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins leukemia last fall, also told Wallace that she doesn’t fear death as much as she fears arriving at the end of her life with regrets. She said that’s the reason she’s been trying to “get it all done” before she dies.

When asked if she had any regrets, Fonda said she hasn’t been “the kind of mother” she wished she was.

The actress also shared an anecdote about her father, Academy Award-winning actor Henry Fonda who died in 1982 at the age of 77.

Fonda told Wallace that she had been able to see her father before he died to tell him that she forgave him and she hoped he would forgive her for “not being a better daughter.” She said rather than respond, her father wept, which she said was something she had never seen him do.

Fonda described that moment as “powerful.”
