(FiveNation.com)- Microsoft founder Bill Gates is pushing a fake meat agenda, and he believes a large-scale shift away from real meat will help solve global warming.
One of the largest imitation meat companies, Impossible Foods, was co-funded by Gates, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Google. Gates recently said that switching completely to fake beef is the ultimate solution for reducing methane emissions that animals release when they are in what’s called concentrated animal feeding operations, of CAFOs.
In February, Gates released a book called “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthrough We Need.” That’s the first place where he made the claim that fake meat would be the solution to all things climate change.
He even suggested that people start now to try to like fake meat. And if they still resist because they don’t like it, government regulations could help in that regard.
Part of the problem with Gates’ point is that he’s a big-time investor in companies that produce fake meat. In other words, he has a vested interest in people moving away from real meat to the fake stud.
Gates has gone as far as saying that the only way to eliminate enough greenhouse gas emissions is to require fake meat. Recently, he commented to the MIT Technology Review:
“In terms of livestock, it’s very difficult. There are all the things where they feed them different food, like there’s this one compound that gives you a 20% reduction [in methane emissions]. But sadly, those bacteria [in their digestive system that produce methane] are a necessary part of breaking down the grass. And so I don’t know if there’ll be some natural approach there. I’m afraid the synthetic [protein alternatives like plant-based burgers] will be required for at least the beef thing.”
Gates promotes companies such as Memphis Meats, Beyond Meats, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and Impossible Foods as companies that can help solve the climate crisis. Of course, he invests heavily in all of those companies. It’s quite the conflict of interest.
He continued his ridiculous assertions in the MIT interview when he said:
“As for scale today, they [Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat] don’t represent 1% of the meat in the world, but they’re on their way. And Breakthrough Energy has four different investments in this space for making the ingredients very efficiently … Now I’ve said I can actually see a path. But you’re right that saying to people, ‘You can’t have cows anymore’ — talk about a politically unpopular approach to things.”
Gates said he believes that all rich countries that can afford it should switch to fake meat 100% of the time. He said it’s the only way to solve the climate change crisis, whether switching to fake beef is popular or not.
Further, Gates is backing a start-up company in the biotechnology field that is developing breast milk that is cultured in a lab.
