“We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers,” he added.
In the video he published alongside the tweet, Cook said that he has launched a “company-wide effort” that brings together product designers (who would otherwise be designing computers and phones),m engineers, operations specialists and packagers to “design, produce, and ship face shields for health workers.”
These aren’t just any old face shields…they’re designed by one of the most famous design teams in the world!
Cook said that the first shipment of the masks has already been delivered to Kaiser hospital facilities throughout the Santa Clara Valley area over the last week.
“The feedback from doctors was very positive,” he said.
The masks have been designed in such a way that 100 can be contained in a single box, and they can be individually assembled in under two minutes.
Apple has been doing quite a lot for the COVID-19 fight. The company recently gave $7 million to China to fight the coronavirus earlier on in the pandemic but is now turning its efforts to the West.
