(FiveNation.com)- The increased scrutiny from the US into China’s involvement with the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a bit of saber-rattling from the Communist Chinese government.
In an op-ed late last month, Hu Xijin, the editor for the CCP state-run propaganda outfit “Global Times,” urged the CCP to better prepare for an “intense showdown” with the US by building up its nuclear arsenal.
Hu wants this nuclear build-up in order to make the American elites “shiver” at the thought of engaging in a military confrontation with the Communist Chinese.
Calling a military build-up the “cornerstone of China’s strategic deterrence against the US,” Hu urged the CCP to increase the number of commissioned nuclear warheads, as well as intercontinental ballistic and strategic missiles.
While this kind of saber rattling from China is not new, the increased focus on China’s involvement in the outbreak of the COVID pandemic is no doubt fueling this latest posturing. Hu’s op-ed was published just one day after President Biden announced that he had ordered his Intelligence Community to “double-down” on identifying the origins of the virus – including looking into the theory that COVID-19 originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
From the very beginning of the pandemic, China has vehemently denied that COVID-19 began in the Wuhan lab. Last year, in response to questions about the proximity of the lab to the supposed wet market source of the virus, Chinese officials accused the US Army of developing COVID at the Fort Detrick biolab.
In response to President Biden’s COVID origin announcement, the CCP accused Biden of “stoking confrontation and sowing division” by ordering the IC investigation.
“Sowing division” is a significant turn of phrase.
Since the start of the pandemic, China has relied on the political correct culture in the West to divert any scrutiny away from itself. As early as March of 2020, Chinese propaganda outlets glommed on to the claim that any mention of China in relation to COVID-19 was “racism.”
And it worked. American journalist parroted the CCP “racism” line ad nauseam.
But it wasn’t just the media that fell in line.
In late May, President Biden signed into law the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act which has at its core the belief that associating COVID-19 with China has caused an increase in anti-Asian hate crimes.
If the CCP can get the US government to dance to its tune over their “racism” trope, why wouldn’t they believe threatening nuclear war will stop the US from looking too closely into their role in the spread of this deadly pandemic?
